Genesis
In 1973, Barney Brenner opened a business in Tucson to repair VW’s for his friends and their friends. As demand grew, a full-scale garage was launched in 1974 on Prince Road, with the name, "Barney’s Wagenworks."
A precision Volkswagen machine shop developed for engine remanufacturing and even other garages and machine shops brought their work. As the parts inventory grew, it was rarely necessary to leave the premises to purchase parts. Folks caught on to that too and parts sales mushroomed. As that end of the business grew, Barney, faced with growing demands on his time, phased out the Vee Dub repair division in favor of the parts store.
In 1984 a national mail-order program was started with the toll-free number 1-800-VEE-DUBS (1-800-833-3827). The move to the present 8000 square foot facility, which Barney constructed, occurred in 1986. Barney’s experience in repair helps to ensure the parts on the shelves maintain a high level of quality.
